MS in the Park

2020 – TBD

In August of 2009, the Atlanta Ole Miss Club had an idea to mirror other Mississippi picnics in New York and Washington, D.C., and with the help of other Atlanta alumni chapters of Mississippi universities, brought that idea to life and held the first Mississippi in the Park at Chastain Park in Buckhead.  In 2010, the Mississippi Society of Georgia, a 501c3, was created to sustain and grow the picnic and was established with alumni representatives from each of the various Mississippi colleges and universities.  Since then, the picnic has grown to include a celebrity golf tournament the day before, which benefits alumni club scholarships of each participant’s school, as well as the picnic, and a fun night with the Braves.

In 2011, the Mississippi Society of Georgia established a $1,000 scholarship to award to a Georgia high school senior attending a four-year Mississippi university or college in the Fall. Through the generosity of their sponsors, the MSG has continued to award a scholarship every year.  In addition to the Mississippi weekend, the Mississippi Society of Georgia holds a Fat Tuesday social every year and various fundraising happy hours throughout the year to benefit Mississippi communities in need.
